South Florida Business Journal: Building brands with the perfect domain names

When Gregg Weiss wanted to create a customer-focused Web site for those looking to build pools, he considered the ideal domain names that would logically draw traffic.

The result is FreePoolQuotes.com. Launched in December 2006, the URL steers visitors to a site that provides information, links and forms that people can fill out to find a local pool contractor.

But, most importantly, the name is a logical use of the words consumers would type to do a search for pools. And the URL is catchy and memorable, he said.

"The domain name says what it is and what you get," said Weiss, a longtime Web site developer and online marketer based in West Palm Beach.

Domain Name Wire: Register.com Goes After Register.cc

Domain registrar Register.com has filed a UDRP against another ICANN-accredited domain registrar, DomainIt, for its use of Register.cc. DomainIt, which manages 22,354 domains according to RegistrarStats, currently forwards register.cc to its main web site.

These guys are clueless about creating positive PR. They seem to always chase bad PR, and they do it quite well.

DomainBits: WHAT EVERYONE OUGHT TO KNOW ABOUT GEO DOMAINS

I've got a real interest in Geo Domains as I think that they have a lot of potential for future appreciation. As well, coming from a competitive webmastering background, I could see how the right Geo Domain could provide a substantial competitive advantage. In fact, the first major domain purchase I made was a Geo Domain.

Because of this, I was happy to see the launch of Simply Geo a few months ago. This is a blog devoted solely to the Geo Domain industry. Despite its youth, the founder of this blog, Steven Morales, has managed to turn his blog into one of the must-read blogs of the domain industry. As well, he has started a corresponding forum at SimplyGeo.net. If you are interested in Geo Domains, these two sites are now the authoritative destination for the field.

Limov.com: Don't believe your web stats

Log analysers are not accurate. They over-report visits and over-count some browsers while under-counting other browsers. They cannot accurately distinguish spiders and robots from human visitors and they do not use fool-proof techniques for counting visits and visitors.

DNJournal: T.R.A.F.F.I.C. West 2008 Takes Care of Business at Domain Industry Summit in Las Vegas

When I headed out to Las Vegas Feb. 18 for the 2008 T.R.A.F.F.I.C. West conference the Super Bowl game that had been played two weeks earlier was still on my mind. The underdog Giants had knocked off the unbeaten and presumably unbeatable Patriots in one of the best NFL championship games ever.

The game brought back a lot of memories because I had the opportunity to cover several Super Bowls when I was a TV sportscaster in in the 1980's. In that era the transformation of the Super Bowl from football game to one of the country's premier business events was already well underway.

Then as now just about every major corporation set up tents, threw great parties and sponsored special activities that drew clients and potential business partners like bees to honey. I was thinking about this on the way to Vegas because if the domain business has a Super Bowl the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference is it.
