1. Just as $1/No Reserve auctions were limiting, $28/No Reserve auctions are still very limiting, especially in the secondary market. The $28 starting bid No Reserve auction format is why better inventory is not entering the Bido system. It’s too restrictive. Even though the fee to list a Reserve auction has been lowered recently, it’s still not enough to provide accommodation of price levels well beyond $28 (it’s free to list $28/No Reserve items, so long as they’re voted in). At the core, the new release is about bringing higher quality inventory, and still incentivize sellers to engage buyers, to create “auction magic”, which often results in “higher than retail” final prices.
2. Voting: Simply put, there’s not enough incentive to vote right now. Some of the questions we asked ourselves, and that we are addressing in this release: Why should voters participate? Why should voters tell others about items they like? Why should voters come back?
3. Linking to your inventory and relaying your message: There’s more to domain sales than a domain name itself. Sometimes there are different sources of traffic, revenue, and various details. The current format does not provide much in the way to describe your inventory that’s simply up for voting on Bido. In addition, its hard to direct people to see an item of yours in the voting area, and we feel these are major accessibility problems that need addressing.
4. Buy It Now: As discussed, Bido is introducing BIN. If we learned one thing over time, this is it: You cannot change people’s desires, but you can surely leverage them.
