Bido: What Sells?

Over at NamePros, garptrader writes:

… Looking at closed transactions, it looks like the median sale is around $50 with about 30% of sales in the $28-$30 range. More than a third of domains which sell get bid up over $100 so if you are selling reg fee cost domains you can still make some money. Domains captured via backorder or an auction might be harder to sell at a profit though it does seem higher quality domains do get more interest (if properly promoted).

There’s a lot of information within Bido’s sales statistics, such as sales ratio, Acceleration success rate, prices, extensions, and more. Maybe someone would take the time to run some numbers and share with the rest of the community? What is the most important number you would be curious to know?

Bido: Back From A Long Weekend, Looking Forward To An Exciting Week

DesiredName: My Experience With Bido

We knew for a while some are doing extremely well with Bido so it’s good finally to see some are discussing it publically. NamePros user “DesiredName” wrote here about his Bido experience:

I just wanted to give a run down on my BIDO experience so far. I haven’t yet gone full stream into the system, as I’ve been testing the waters and getting used to the process, but it has been positive so far.

I’ve had 33 names go to auction so far, with 15 auctions resulting in a sale. Sales prices have varied between 28.00 and 538.00.

My total BIDO sales to date are: $1,562.00, of which approximately: 1437.00 will be paid out to me (after BIDO’s 8%).

As far as profit goes, my total investment in the 15 sold names adds up to: just under 95.00. I also had tried out a 10 pack of the accelerations, which did not work out well for me; resulting in only two sales (and these were, I believe, among the better names I listed), for a total payout of almost exactly what I paid for the accelerations, which was just over 80.00.

So, I had about 175.00 invested and made NET sales (after BIDO fees) of 1437.00= $1,262.00 in profit.

I estimate that I have spent approximately 20 hours total involved in the entire BIDO process, including listing a few hundred names for voting, putting together descriptions and dealing with the post sales transfers and contacts. Additionally, I estimate approx. 5 hours of research into finding this name list, which gives me an estimated: 25 hours total invested.

So, I estimate approx. $50.00 per hour (before taxes) in return from my BIDO experience so far.

That is, of course, after I get paid on all the domains I’ve sold. All of them have now been paid for by the buyers, but I’m still working on getting 4 of the transfers/pushes made to the new owners so that I can get payment cleared on those. BIDO has been helpful in this process to date, although I still believe that an escrow type system would work better.

My average sale price for a name to date has been: 84.13. That isn’t a bad number at all, based on my business model. I do have to say that this number might have been a bit larger, but I was somewhat hesitant to list higher grade names at the beginning and the accelerated auction listings didn’t fair particularly well, in my case. Does anyone else have a better experience with the accelerated auctions? I personally think that buyers are often ignoring these listings to a degree, although I have seen some that were bid up a bit. I have also noticed that sales seem to be trending up somewhat from a couple of weeks ago. A lot of that seems to be from one particular buyer though.

We’re all hard at work to make Bido better for all, provide better liquidity for sellers as well as more deals for buyers.

Making Money With Bido

Today I read the following on NamePros:

…Good to see more sellers using bido; are these the first you’ve sold? If not, how are your results so far? Mine, as an average, have been excellent (in my opinion). I’ve had a few domains that I expected a bit more out of and a couple that did significantly better than expected. Overall, above average and over 1400 in profit. I have another 39 auctions scheduled and have another 20 or so that I’ll be setting up in the next few days. I have had about half of the domains that went to auction actually sell, for an average of roughly 150.00 each (13 names so far sold). What’s great is that most of these were recent deletes that I had just regged and posted on BIDO, so there really is some potential here.

We know of many who are happy with Bido, however I’d like to ask, how has your experience been with Bido, as a buyer, seller? What can we do to make Bido better, to make your life easier?

Bido: New Verification Methods & More

We just released two additional whois verification methods to make it easier to get your domains listed on Bido. So in addition to the legacy method of placing a unique account tag in whois like we had, sellers can now add a nameserver record to validate ownership. The third method of ownership validation that we now offer, and we feel this is the easiest, sellers who submit domains for sale will automatically be emailed a link to click. The email will be sent to the admin contact of the domain name. As soon as you click the link, your domain will appear in the Vote tab, or in the case of Reserve auctions, your Reserve domain will be ready to list. In case you needed to update the email address first, you can click to resend the link as a self-serve process. We will be sending the links to click retroactively to all sellers.

We also made several various enhancements to the transfer panel for buyers and sellers to make the transfer and communication process even easier than it was before. Active buyers and sellers will notice the changes, first time users will find an extremely easy to use interface for finalizing transactions.

We hope these changes will make your life a little easier. As always, we welcome comments and feedback.
