Part 3: Are Parked Domain Names Just Another Exit?

(Part 1, 2 here)

While not the first, Reinvent’s cross marketing promotion of BlackFriday.com yesterday reminded me of the potential of this concept. How does it work?

This is how Reinvent does it:

Benefits:
1. By sending a user to another parked domain you may prequalify him (if the advertised domain contains strong descriptive keywords).
2. Advertised parked page then may display higher paid ads, resulting in increase to your bottom line.
3. Visual branding (ad) may result in user remembering the domain later in the day/week/month.

It would also make sense to look at the categories the domains are, and cross market accordingly. For example, BlackFriday.com ads make perfect sense on shopping related domains however not as much for disease related domains, or education related domains.

If you have any experience with cross marketing I would love to hear more about it. Any other related concepts, discussion is most welcome.

Have a great day,

Sahar

Parked domains serve it’s purpose and do so quiet well…and have for a while now.. The way visitors interpret them varies case by case and probably most do find them useful to a certain degree. They get it that what is presented to them is a directory or a very limited resource…of text links to third party sources… most often than not this outside sources they click on are spammy results or weird irrelevant offers that aren’t even good offers… most of the time it should be on target but unfortunately it is not. But why aren’t they clicking 100% of the time on the links? What is the real problem? Sometimes they do on certain domains and more than once.. Sometimes they don’t and the CTR is really low to the point where it is depressing.. Trust is the single and biggest issue. Crappy designs and poor optimization…. that is so 2000. A poor design means crappy site, which translates to overall weakness and will drive people away.

What Hitfarm did isn’t really anything breakthrough and has been done before but I applaud them for trying something new and to further experiment and gather data. Next step is to build on-topic networks that will inter-connect more of their domains…with even more of their nice groups of domains which are strategically focused on very specific verticals.

As a suggestion. How about instead of pointing a website to a parked page pointing a domain name to a parked page.

    i.e.

Hotel.com is parked with cashparking featuring applicable ads. I point BestHotels.com to the site and users that type BestHotels.com get the results of the Hotel.com site.
