Why I Didn’t Go Shopping Today

Black Friday and my family and I stayed home - no shopping for us. Here are three reasons why we are staying home:

no_shopping.jpg1. Do you know how the economy will look like tomorrow? Do you know if your income will sustain tomorrow? I don’t either.

2. Our TV/Refrigerator/Dishwasher works fine - no need to upgrade to the latest model, especially not today.

3. Over the last few years I learned, stores are not to be trusted, impulse buying is stupid buying. A while ago I walked into a local wine store to buy a gift for Darren. I found a bottle of wine I liked, the store owner quoted me the price of 500$, he said he will give me 100$ discount as well. Happy me I paid for the bottle, took it to the office, and made Darren’s day. When I got home I was curious how much this bottle goes for online. How about 179.99??. Never again!

Did you go shopping today? Did anything change for you from past years? It’s definitely going to be interesting to see stores’ numbers come Monday.

On that note, seems like Reinvent (image above) are pushing the domain BlackFriday.com across their properties. Part 3 (part 1, 2 here) tomorrow, similar to what Reinvent, CCIN, RMG and others are doing, I plan to explore further cross-marketing and how it can help your business.

Have a great day,

Sahar

It’s a choice of life Sahar!

    Buying in the local store:
    - You get a personal advice.
    - You get the bottle the same day.
    - You maybe met a friend there.
    - No suprise in the product bought.
    - You participate in the local economy.

If you decide to spend most of your time online it’s up to you!
Sure, you should find the same stuff at a lower price but does it make allways sense?
Remember that for your health you admitted in a previous post you have to go more often out and use your bicycle ;-)

    Friendly

    PS:
2 post about “Parking Arbitrage” the same day? You are motivated.

You spent $400 for wine, that’s not absolutley much - but definitley not cheap.

I have drank Dom Perignon and $3 champagnes…and I can say I’ll gladly take the cheaper one anyday.

For all intensive purposes, they’re pretty much the same.

No shopping for me. There was nothing I needed, no deals that screamed “GET UP AND GET THIS” and just so damned lazy. I used to ALWAYS go to Black Friday deals for fun. Trying to get ahead of the crowd was just so worth it… but this year, nah.

PPC revenue is down as well, so I’m more focused on starting to stash cash into different accounts and make sure things just stay stable. Oh, how life has changed in the last 6 months. Gas was $4/gal, but I still consider them the “good ‘ol days”.

You can get fantastic deals on Black Friday. I got myself a great monitor at Frys last year. But you’re absolutely right, it’s the impulse buys that you need to avoid. If you know what you’re looking for before you go in, and there is plenty of info online to assist you with this, then you are usually good to go.

On the other hand, you can often find equal or better deals online than you can in store. Some stores have Thanksgiving only, BF only and CyberMonday only deals. And quite often, though not always, these are better than brick and mortar deals.

Slickdeals.net and Fatwallet.com are part of my daily website routine. You can find loads of BF info at this sites.

I hate going to stores — any time of year…
    If I have to go — I go late…

I’d never go out on Black Friday…

Our local news showed people camping out at stores 2 days before Black Friday… and it’s COLD here in Dayton, OHIO USA… it was in the 30s in the late evening… some even
    had tents…

On another note - this was the most relaxing, enjoyable
    Thanksgiving I’ve had in years… had a great time…
Hope all of you did as well…

Now to go check out those two sites Scott mentioned (above)

No shopping this year. reason; Economy. Simple as that.

In New York State, shoppers trampled a Wal-Mart employee to death today. Who wants to shop with people like that around when you can shop online peacefully in your home?

“Sure, you should find the same stuff at a lower price but does it make allways sense?”

Sahar would have saved $200 or more so yes it would have made sense
    in this case.

Another way to look at it is he could have gotten two bottles -one for him ,one for his friend- for about the same price.

    Greetings Sahar,

I have not been on your GREAT website for a while.

You are spot on - at the time like this it is good to live life within our means.

    Have Fun
