Does the above make sense to you? Is it really the best we can do? What about domain branding, channel branding (mindshare), repeat traffic, SEO? Can we do better by keeping the user longer? What else are we missing here? I welcome your thoughts here.
Tomorrow’s chart, I will try to touch on what a parked domain could be.
Have a great day, and happy thanksgiving to all!

We can do alot better than park our domains - If we hope to sell these key assets we need to develop and hope that someone lands on our domains see what can be done here.
i.e mini-sites are great you can still make revenue through adsense - get ranked in search engines and have content that make people come back to your site or discuss it with others.
I dont thinking parking has seen its death as it still brings revenue to large portfolio holders but the small guy with not so many names should look at mini-sites or development in eyes.

Robbie
The parked page must evolve.
The general population is sick of seeing them.
The next step…Full Blown Parked Websites.
Above all, the parked site needs to be user friendly.
It needs to contain many pages with lot’s of goodies.
It needs to be a place where users find what they need and like.
It needs Many different ways to be monetized Besides G&Y.
That will probably be the hardest part of building the service.
The domainer should be able to log into the system and pick and choose from many different “content modules”. We should be able to add pictures, TV listings, articles, feeds, videos, news and so on. We should be able to add our own content. The Duplicate content situation would need to be addressed somehow. But, anything like this would be an improvement on what we have now.
If possible, all of the content/modules/exits should be monetized.
That monetization might even be in the form of a linkback instead of money.
If these sites were good enough, people might even use them for portals. At the very lease, they might see them as normal websites. Parking page blindness (or parking page resentment) might be ended.
Some will say things should stay the way they are…a simple page with links. That can’t work forever. The company who comes up with a better way can expect a massive flood of domianers to come their way. It wouldn’t be easy, but it should be possible.
Something like what Whypark.com are doing sounds like the way forward.

Robbie
Nice to see you back posting Sahar
we missed you.
I would like to see parking companies hook up with affiliates paying a small amount for clicks and a percentage of the sales price for clicks that result in a sale….everybody wins.
One of my (.eu) domains made $52 this month in affiliate clicks, not alot most people would say but I can assure you it would’nt make 50 cents a month if parked and I hav’nt touched it in over 6 months.
Can you imagine how much more you would make on a high traffic domain paying out 3% of all sales !
Its win win all the way
@Robbie,
Whypark is great but is too expensive for a domainer that don’t have that much budget. I would recommend SteadyNiche (http://www.steadyniche.com/). It’s downloadable so you have much more control on the parking software.
You don’t have to spend a large sum upfront to test the software as it’s only $9.99 for 1 domain. Check their pricing for more info(http://www.steadyniche.com/pricing.html)
I got an idea. How about you guys unpark your high traffic domains and point your DNS over to me?? =)
Seriously, I’ll build your domain into a simple mini site featuring a custom video of me introducing your domain and talking about it’s potential. The details of the content of your domains page will be worked out between you and I prior to production. But we could have a video, and allow comments so that other domainers could rate what they believe the value of your domain to be (like bido!) Think of it as a LIVE video profile for your domain, and I’m your sales guy. I will have a scrollable list of the domains that I’m selling (like a car lot or showroom) living next to the 24/7 LIVE video feed on LIVEdomainer.com
Anyway, just some thoughts that I’ve been kicking around lately while conversing with other domainers who have been dropping by. Feel free to e-mail me if anyone’s interested in discussing this more in depth.

WhyParks? Because I’m not a parked page, I’m aLIVE page.
Im interested with your idea Jamie - I’ll drop you an email shortly.

Robbie
I’ve made a way to replicate websites. Using RSS and other data feeds and directory scrapes, I’m able to very quickly deploy content sites based on templates we’ve created that are much more feature rich than parking pages.
The sites can be set on auto pilot, and best of all they can be updated with fresh content, contacts or whatever else the template owner wants to publish.
Designers, domaineers and internet marketers are encouraged to publish their own suites to our platform and make money reselling them.
See these posts:

Still early in our game, but as a domain guy myself, I know that we’ve built a powerful set of features, designed to manage multiple domains from one CMS.
Some videos here on the features:

Would love some feedback and trials
Thanks guys

Has anyone tried venturenames.com they seem to have everything you would need if you want to park your domains with a mini site. I have over 600 domains parked there and the content is great plus you can modify every page with your own stuff if needed including video. They have a good selection of templates too.
Great site. Been a lurker here for a while, and feel that we are fortunate to have this site.
If this is already being done or whatever, excuse me. What about a central clearing house of sorts where advertisers can list their willingness to have ads placed, along with what they will pay, and allow the domain owner to pick and choose among them or categories, sort of like a click and drop to your page. Much more transparency, control, and cost effective for everyone.
