Dear Friends & Associates of Bido,
The entire team here at Bido would like to apologize to all of our users. We admit we may have gotten a little ahead of ourselves and let our emotions precede our technological abilities.
Fixedloans.com was the highest interest domain name we have listed to date and admittedly we were unprepared and simply not ready for the influx of traffic. Our technology team is currently working on the issues, however, I do not have a target date to share with you today but will keep everyone informed to the progress and re-launch date. We are committed to producing the best product possible for our users and want everyone to know we will stay committed to that regardless of the time, energy and investment it takes.
To recap the chain of events:
Tuesday August 19, 2008 1pm Fixedloans.com auction starts…
Tuesday August 19, 2008 Shortly after 2pm Bido web servers crash…
Wednesday August 20, 2008 10am, Bido is live and ready (so we think) for Fixedloans.com relisting…
Wednesday August 20, 2008 1pm Fixedloans.com auction starts…
Wednesday August 20, 2008 1:52pm Traffic from auction slows services and makes site unavailable for most users; Bido team stops auction and pulls website offline.
As you can see, yesterday we made a conscious decision to stop the auction, as access to the website was limited which is unfair to everyone. Others may have chosen a different route but that was a decision we made as an organization and we feel it was the best decision. Bido was built with domain owners in mind and many of the decisions we make are based on ‘walking a mile in your shoes’, which we do every day. Our approach and philosophy is also based on the same principals and forms the foundation of our organization.
While I am sure this will leave some unanswered questions in our customers, partners and even competitors minds, many of those questions cannot be answered at this time. I can tell you nothing has or will change our commitment to the domain name community and at some point in the near future, we will re-launch Bido.com’s one-a-day domain name auction and more, that’s for sure. The decision to keep the auction offline for the moment in no way affects Portfolio Help or DNZoom.com . Those services will remain active and continue to serve domain name owners as it does now without any interruptions.
We would like to take this time to thank everyone that has made Bido a success. Without your participation we could not have done it. In addition, the support has been tremendous and we want to extend our gratitude and appreciation to everyone for it! Yes we are human, yes we admit we should have probably held off a few more days or weeks, who knows but we are constantly learning new things every day.
This will be a lesson we learn from and one that will only make us that much stronger and wiser when the time is right to bring Bido back! As always, we welcome your feedback and appreciate your understanding and patience as we figure this thing out! If I can personally be of assistance to anyone, feel free to reach me at the number listed below.
Thanks in advance,
Darren Cleveland

Sahar,
The big guys are having tech problems too. SnapNames has snapped again just now…
I think it’s a testament to how many people wanted in on the action! Hopefully SnapNames crashed because of the same reasons…
Nothing wrong with Bido’s business model - great idea and a brave strategy, all down to tech issues seemingly. I liked it from day one.
imo it take courage to launch this project, it was fresh and completely without a safety net ($1 start wow). I think Bido will recoup and sort these issues and prove to be a great success in times to come - apart from a few low sales they’ve already attracted great interest and had some pretty good sales too. In fact the fixedloans probs seemed to be down to the auction being a victim of its own success - too many hits seemed t ocause the problems huh little time

Spelled your name wrong in the facebook link…
Are/were you going to use this interface/platform for your T.R.A.F.F.I.C auctions ? If so, what now ?
—-answer—-
Our plans for auction have not changed. If it changes for any reason we will let everyone knows.
Cheers

Let everyone at Bido know that this isn’t a problem!! A lot of us understand having to rework something. Bido got an insight of how things go during it’s launch and now have a change to rework that. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future. Bring it on!

In the wonderful world of domaining you never know what to expect. This is a true testament to a great product that your team has developed. Once all the bugs are worked out everything will ride smoothly once again. Nothing can prepare you for hosting issues, when they arise the best thing to do is conquer them one at a time. As a seasoned veteran in the hosting world and a passionate domainer I truly tip my hat off to each and everyone of your team members as they have done an excellent job. Best of all you are honest and have proven that you want the integrity of your system to be flawless so everyone has the chance to participate on an equal basis.
Best Regards,
Jason Thompson

In our humble opinion, mistakes are the centerpiece of creation. We all need people like you with a determination that is grounded in a moral compass pointing in the right direction. We admire your reaction to this challenge.
Is there any chance a rogue bidder tried to overload the server to limit access to other bidders. I think bido did the right thing to rehold the auction. It makes sense to give everyone a fair shot

We thought of it back then as well and checked log file, did not see a problem. We’re making the architecture stronger, Bido should be live soon (2-6 weeks)
Cheers
