The Register: Microsoft To eBay Name For $1m

microsoft ebay
(Did you notice the similar identical colors between MS logo to eBay’s? Google is same as well but that is all for another post)

Via TheRegister.co.uk:

Portuguese outfit Microsoft Lda aims to cash in on its name by eBaying the brand and business for a starting price of $1m, Reuters reports.

The company registered its title locally in back in 1981, long before Microsoft Corp penetrated the Portuguese market. Since the Beast of Redmond is accordingly not allowed to call itself Microsoft in the land of fado and pasteis de nata, it lurks behind the MSFT moniker.

Microsoft Lda CEO Ricardo Carvalho said today: “MSFT has said it was interested in our brand name but needed more time to discuss the matter. We have held talks with them in the past and didn’t want to wait for them anymore.”

Two things here:

1. First time I see eBay is being used as a verb. Usually it’s “I found it on eBay”, not “I want to ebay this..”.

2. MS recognizes mainstream auction house to get best returns. Forget exclusivity, the one who control the eyeballs wins.

You may be a bit behind the times then! Ebay as a verb started about ten years ago.

Looking at Google, you are right. Funny I never came across it. Just shows you how much time I spend on eBay.
