Soul Search with Omar Baig

Omar Baig is one of the nicest and smartest guys in the domain business. If there was one thing I would love to have it is Omar’s curiousity, questioning skills. At times i thought I knew how to ask, that is, until I met Omar!

Over the years Omar has done very well acquiring some great domains. Omar is also a good friend of mine. Every time I came to visit in San Fransisco Omar would take days off from what he was doing to show me around town, take me to the local spots, in particular, some great Indian/Pakistani restaurants near Union Square.

At TRAFFIC NY, during one of those lonely nights at the hotel lobby, while chatting with Omar and friends they mentioned they are working on unique video project, a project which will cost a fortune but the rewards, if achieved, are priceless.

Glad to see the project is now off the ground and wishing you the very best Omar. Keep the faith, she is out there.

Actually a lot of Pakistani restaurants have opened up in the Union Square area as well. Did Omar take you to Shalimar? That place is hilarious. The food is fantastic, spicy enough to set your hair on fire, and super cheap - but these guys never heard of customer service. When you walk in no one greets you, instead you hang out in the doorway until a table opens up and then try to get to it before anyone else. When you order they don’t write it down, just stare at you and say, “Ok.” When an order is ready they ring a bell, everyone in the restaurant looks up, and the cook points to the customer whose food is ready, to come up and get it.

If you like Vietnamese try Tu-Lan at Sixth and Market, and if you like Chinese you must try House of Nanking in North Beach, or Mandarin Islamic Restaurant out in the Sunset (the incredible food is more than worth the taxi ride)… For falafel, King of Falafel on Divisadero. None of these are tourist spots, just great neighborhood secrets.

Unfortunately I can’t host you as I live in Panama now. But if you’re ever in Central America, give me a buzz.

Maybe it was Pakistani food, probably!
Next time i’m in SF, will look up this post. Thanks for that.

Nice vid but where’s the URL? He’s a domainer and he didn’t put a site reference on the video? I don’t get it unless he’s trying to build some celebrity mysteriousness….
    Good luck Omar.
