The Essence Of A Thing

sitepoint logo contest

Found this new entry by evilponger in the Sitepoint’s logo contest a fascinating read as well.

My thought process, well before putting an image to paper:

The concept is the essence of a thing. To capture the concept is to destill its essence, a process that resembles, to a great extent, the philosophy of alchemy.
After browsing a bit through your blog I stumbled on these few lines:

Notice then when we learn of a new subject, we first start with basic questions.
Once we acquire some knowledge, we build upon it and move to more complex questions.

This immediately set me off in the direction of growth and expansion, which reminded me of Plato’s “Meno” and how trough asking the right questions one can arrive at infintely complex answers. I wanted to construct a basic logical argument, through which one could arrive from the very simple to the very complex. In a way this is the nature of a concept itself, the true proper concept is a seed, the genetic code of the thing that is being conceptualized.

So far I had these connections in my mind : movement, from simple to complex, a proces of refinement, fractals, mathematics and alchemy. Searching for a common concept linking alchemy, mathematics and phillosophy is that of infinity. Starting with the infinitely small, the concept of ‘being’ as opposed to ‘not being’. A single dot, one, (one dimension) we then move towards the infinite. The symbol of infinity is the linking image for all of my associations.

Here is a facinating video explanation of how to perceive 10 dimensions:

This might help some of your contestants think outside the 3 dimensional box.

    Cheers!
