I wasn’t too happy with the first results, figured will give it a second chance.
What went wrong? On my part, not enough description, guidance to artists.
On their part, lots of cookie cutter logos, no attention to details.
So, trying again, this time increased the prize considerably (USD2,500), added more days, discussed in more details what is needed, what to avoid.
Hoping for the very best!

That’s the biggest reward I’ve ever seen on Site Point.
Wow.
Think you should get a good one.

Good to hear, didn’t know that. If it works out good we will do so much more business through sitepoint. We put out many projects a year and each requires its own logo and design work. Could be fun.
More like the most honest prize reward on Site Point.
Conceptualist is a difficult word to a designer to design around, it breaks many branding rules.
It is a great name to you, except you need to think what it means to others.
It doesn’t matter what you or I want/think it matters what the masses want/think.
Use the overture tool and you will see users are confused:
52 conceptualist direct epistemic foundation foundationalism justification realist restoring theory
I read your description and I didn’t see you gave any adjectives. For example. Professional Logo, with fun. The colors you HATE or don’t want to see.
You current website has NO colors, blue hyperlinks, black text and white background. Correct me if I am worng, you can’t count the pictures on your blog entries for the designer to design around.
The logo’s from the first request MATCH your website. Using your current description. You are asking for a black and white logo with maybe some blue.
Just taking a logo and putting it in place on your current blog, I don’t think makes sense to a designer. The results from test one may show my thinking is not far off.
Research http://www.johnchow.com and read his blog and read how he did his blog redesign and the company he used. John Chow makes $20k per month from his blog and one domain that 1 year ago no one would go to. Content is still KING and domains are just domains.
Congradulations, I read your may story on dnjoural.com. You are smart and make tons of money, like many veteran domainers.
You should let a talented person/company design a new website like johnchow.com did. My two cents.
Good Luck with your new logo.

Thanks tony for your input, much appreciated. Love your domain DreamLife.com, it’s a winner.

I scored my logo (the hat anyway) for $150. I’ve used it several times, sometimes there are great ones other times there aren’t. 2500 is the most I’ve seen as well so you should have people putting a lot of thought into it.
Sahar, what a great prize to encourage talent. I’ll be submitting my entry by Friday. Got to do some research for you first!

Thanks. looking forward to “checking you out”
That’s easily the highest ever paid for a logo on Sitepoint.
I’ve used Sitepoint to get logos done and find graphic designers, but I’ve always had a pretty good idea in my head of what I like before I start. Then I go around the web finding photos, drawings and other logos that I like and dislike and link to them in the description on Sitepoint so that the artists have something solid to work with.
I would never actually spend that much on Sitepoint myself as I believe you could get better value for money from a traditional logo design firm at that rate. You have to spend so much time on Sitepoint sorting the wheat from the chaff.

I can do better and direct them better I’m sure but on the other hand I don’t want to limit their creativity. If I have to spend 2.5k or 3k on a design firm (most top firms will charge much more) vs sitepoint contest, my choice would be the hands of many vs. one.
I’m not a designer, but I’m wondering how a single logo is going to look if you keep changing your header image each day. I would think you need to stick with a fairly consistent background color for the logo to sit on. Just a thought…
—-Answer—-
The logo won’t be where the header is. Thinking to place it above the search box or maybe under feed box.
I do see your point though and will take it into consideration when choosing one.
Thanks

Was sooner than I expected.
Sahar,
What a great, fantastic, unique, out of the box, viral multipronged publicity generating device you have created, whether you know it or not. You have just tapped into one of the largest and greatest group of Internet Sneezers in the world.
I for one appreciate you spreading the “good word” about your philosophy and domaining to a group that has the most to gain and the most to lose if they don’t learn their domain lessons well.
Cheers!

This was taken into consideration when I put the contest out there. Next year I plan to do as much to expose other groups to the industry in many different ways. I think this is what each of us should do as the more participants, the more dollars chasing the same inventory (good names).
Cheers
Sahar
Plus , you are going to get a great logo in the end!
Cheers!

Agreed. The current submissions are already good, can’t wait to see how it all looks at the end.

cool logo Tia….
Just my humble opinion here, but most good designers will not work on spec. You’re missing out on a lot of quality designers when using spec designers. Those designers should also realize they are working for free. Most eventually do and graduate to the next level. I don’t really know why anyone would do any work with so little direction on the HOPES of getting you to pick them. Imagine any profession working on spec. . . . . “Please build me a house sir. I won’t tell you what I want it to look like. Just build it and if I like it, I will pick you”
Just find an artist/designer you like and can work with and pay them well. It’s obviously worth it.

I gave this some thought too Adam. The arrangement with logo contests isn’t forced on participants. They chose to participate, the system was there long before I joined in. Obviously it works for them for whatever reason. May some do it on their free time for fun or as a side income, maybe they do are able to make a good living by making lots of cookie cutter logos that takes 5-10 minutes to make, I don’t know. Bottom line though it works and so far I’m happy with what I’m seeing.
Cheers

Wow, a $2500 prize for a logo design! That’s unheard of for the logo design. Best of luck.
i like the idea of illustrating your pic in the logo. interesting.
I think the logo would look much better without the .com in it.
—-Answer—-
You are probably right however, there’s a good argument why to leave the domain as-is in the logo. I’ll write about it soon.
Sahar
great idea Sahar…gotta say I like Tias best so far…are you gonna have a public vote on it?
—-answer—-
No public vote, but probably a poll before we choose one. Not to say I will go with what poll says, but could be interesting.
Sahar
Hi,
I’ll try to submit a logo on sitepoint sometimes soon.
But i can’t help to say that it is interesting on how you turn your life from rags to riches from this domain business.
I myself want to be like you someday ( still looking for opportunity ), but my skill is only at graphic designing and illustration
anyway, i post in here just want to tell you that people like you convince me to not just give up finding ways for better life
… best luck
