Real Estate Or Domain Names? You Be The Judge

fort lauderdale boat show

I was at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show yesterday and on the way, on the Jungle Queen shuttle boat which took us to the show, we passed through Fort Lauderdale Millionaire’s Row. To those who don’t know, Fort Lauderdale Millionaire’s Row is a strip of private real estate houses on the intercoasal near the Riverfront.

During the boat ride the captain pointed out who lives where and some of the stories behind some of the houses. One of the interesting facts I picked up on is the land on Millionaire’s row (which now is being refered to as “Billionaire’s row” due to cheaper money) was given away for free back in the 20’s. The first thought of course is how people overlooked this great opportunity back then? Then the second thought took me back to 1994, when Network Solutions was still giving away any domain you wanted for free, if you just asked for it. Can you imagine? You could have picked up million dollar names only 13 years ago, as many as you wanted (could have structured within different companies at ease) as long as you asked for it.

That brings me to today. People back in the 20’s overlooked Fort Lauderdale real estate. People 13 years ago overlooked domain names. What are people overlooking today? Maybe IDN’s? Maybe SMS numbers? I’m curious to know what you folks think, predict.

IDN’s are going to be huge in the future. Especially Japanese, Chinese, Korean. Most of the people there aren’t internet savvy and are not proficient in English. So IDN’s would be the right choice.

IDN’s sales are matching up with English domain names prices.

I think alot of people definitely over looked IDN’s for “Free” ( reg fee ) but there are still a ton of bargains still on the aftermarket , on of the places to find them would be IDNF.com

    Sahar,

    Torah (study) and Mitzvot (commandments)

This is the best merchandise. Totally overlooked today.

Give food to somebody who does not have to eat. In the next world it will be worth much more than all the money you can leave behind.

    Regards,

And may God continue to give you success.

    Moises,

While I agree it is vital to nourish the spiritual body as well as the physical, and that in the context of eternity the spiritual is much greater. Still… I am here in physical form and must eat.

How do you spell Torah in Hebrew?

That would make an excellent IDN. Where I could create a website that does both.

The Torah (תּוֹרָה) is the most important document in Judaism, revered as the inspired word of God, traditionally said to have been revealed to Moses. The word Torah means “teaching,” “instruction,” “scribe”, or “law” in Hebrew. It is also known as the Five Books of Moses, the Law of Moses (Torat Moshe תּוֹרַת־מֹש?ֶה) or Sefer Torah (which refers to the scroll cases in which the books were kept), in Greek called Pentateuch (Πεντετε?χως “five rolls or cases”).

I think .TV is going to be a big money maker in the near future. Especially since its being backed by Richard Rosenblatt and Demand Media. It’s already on TV and media print. People are already stocking up on good names. Get yours while you still can!!

I am thinking GREEN. All things GREEN will be gold. Green IS the new gold. Green information and sites helping people make more informed energy decisions will be very valuable. The world will be getting hungry for green info with ever increasing weather problems. Droughts, floods and bigger hurricanes caused by global warming will be in the news daily for the next century. Hard to go wrong by going GREEN. IMHO.

You’re thinking about this slightly askew.

Chances like this don’t come around very often.

Domaining had its window 13 years ago. Fort Lauderdale property had its window 80 years ago.

It may well be that there are no such opportunities available right now. One may develop next year or not for the next several years.

    Valid point, thanks for sharing.

    Definitely not IDN!

Look at the sick people hoarding those worthless names.
They formed a clique just like teenage girls.
Anybody who has a slightly diff idea is booted out of their little clique forum run from Japan.
They sell each other worthless names and they try to entice other folks to buy their chicken $%#@ for thousands of bucks!
Most of their trades are fakes!
The real deals are done at the level of $5 or $10. Period.
Clearly, these folks need to see a specialist. A shrink.

    To Steve re: opportunities;

I beg to differ. Opportunity is there, for everyone, every day.

Most have learned not to see it.

    You have to be kidding?
Just check out DNJournal and Snapname sales of IDNs.
These are verified sales, not hearsay.
Lots of xx,xxx sales, a few getting up close to the xxx,xxx mark.
Most IDN deals go down quietly without being published.

I vehemently disagree with the Rubber Ducky’s description of our group as a ‘clique’. My life partner call me ‘psychotic’, but of course he says that lovingly. I think.

I like to use fancy words so that everybody recognized that I’m not your average run of the mill Russian émigré.
I have a degree from the Ivy League school and I sweep floors at Harvard. It’s a step up from my Russian college, KGB University, where they called me Comrade Chirkov. My job there was to pull nails from all those ‘dissidents’ who didn’t believe in the bright future of IDN’s. Sorry, I meant to say, communism.
In our cozy international forum we accept everybody who agrees with us.
The other day one of the newbies pissed me off, so I figured we have to get rid of him. But how?
I sent a PM to our Forum Administrator, Olney, saying the guy is a racist. He used word ‘Russki’ once or twice.
Olney is African American, very nice guy, but a simpleton. He is very sensitive to ‘racist’ remarks. And so, in no time the newbie was booted out.

What I didn’t tell Olney is that the 200 million Russians call themselves Russki. And I myself publish an underground web magazine called Russki. Ha ha.
