    Sahar–

I have a great proof-of-concept story that I’d love to blog on my own site but really don’t have a place for it. Perhaps you can use it? If you’d care to contact me I’d be happy to sum it up for you, I really think you’ll enjoy it.

    Love the blog!

I believe the single most important thing someone new to the business can do is put their credit card away for at least a week and go to a site like http://www.namebio.com or DNJournal.com to look through past sales. Look for trends and determine a niche you would like to explore, and then whip out that plastic. I’m not saying you shouldn’t take risks (most successful people got that way by taking chances), I’m saying you should at least attempt to make an educated decision so you have more of a foundation to build on.

(Sorry, kind of a vague tip, but I thought I’d get things started.)

    —-ANSWER—-

Thanks. It is not a bad tip for beginners. Reearching/analyzing is more important then buying blindly.

    The Domainerism Manifesto

    or

The Domainerism vs. Trademarkism, Round 1

    by Crinu Iliescu of crinux.com

The Domainerism is a movement and the ideology of the Domainers. The Domainers are the product of the Internet, forward thinkers, visionaries and doers. They employ Domains, the backbone employees of the ever expanding Internet (Worldbeam ?).

The Domainers are becoming the largest indirect employers in the history of mankind and their goal is to accelerate the progress of the Internet towards the first truly global society that can reach and enrich everyone everywhere on this planet.

Currently the Domains are employees of the Domainers the same way football players belong to the team owner under a contract. They can be kept and used, transferred for a fee or just dropped. Once dropped they may resurface in another team, or just hibernate, hoping sometime they will resurrect and be put to work”¦ they are not really dead. Some domains play an active role, some sit on the bench. The Domains are the perfect employees, they can be programmed with contents and reprogrammed again and again to better suit the demands of this new emerging global society.

The Internet is the mirror of our current societies, there is good and bad, useful and crap, pleasant and distasteful, funny and offensive “¦ an all you can eat buffet, but this is the best achievement in thousands of years of human evolution. Our children will be born genetically-internet-enabled and they will carry on our mission.

Over time, the world experienced the battles of the ideologies: Democracy vs. Tyranny, Capitalism vs. Communism etc. Now the Domainers have reached the critical mass to embrace the Domainerism in the fight against the Trademarkism.

The Trademarkism is the old ideology of the bricks that served well (?!) in the past, but nowadays its grip on power is diminishing, or better said overwhelmed by the Domainers drive to expand the Internet galaxy.

The Domainerism can influence the consumer purchasing behaviour and social opinion to effect overall drastic changes that the Trademarkism fights to preserve and enslave. There will be a time when all the bricks will be forced to operate from remote warehouses and the malls and big store buildings will be transformed in botanical greenhouses or butterfly sanctuaries for all the consumers to enjoy daily, freed up from the on-foot shopping chores, and the bricks and us will live in harmony happily ever after.

Same can be found at http://Domainerism.com & http://Trademarkism.com

    Hiya Sahar

    Found this site

    http://cadna.org/index.html

    http://cadna.org/press-release-july-24.html

Could do with some balance being added to the argument. Sure blatent TM infringement is always going to be emotive but the very clear inference here is that all PPC monetization and domain holding is erring on criminality should we all be tarred with this brush???

” They cause incalculable harm to consumers through the practices they enable such as phishing, deposit of spyware, and peddling of counterfeit goods. So what is being done to stop tasting and to slow the growth of cybersquatting? ” from their join us section

“Furthermore, lawmakers have overlooked their oversight responsibilities pertaining to the link between cybersquatting and other Internet crimes such as spam, spyware, and phishing and have done little to curb brand abuses in all forms on the Internet,”

This coalition could have a major impact on us all.

Could you have a look at it and if you find time blog and spread the word I think someone needs to counter this and state that domain name investment and monetization of portfolios is legitimate there is a very clear demarcation between that and the true definition of “cybersquatting” the term is just being bandied around and tied into legimate domain name investment - causing yet further consumer confusion

    Thanks

    Thanks

    Hi Sahar,

I wanted your opinion on this company:

    http://www.pickydomains.com/

They get paid $50 for picking a domain name for you. Are they spiting themselves? Wouldn’t it be better to buy all the good names yourself and sell them in the aftermarket rather than what they are doing? Maybe they are doing both.

    Here is the story.

Thanks for the link. After reading I really have no opinion. Too new, no traction yet. If and when it gains traction I’ll spend more time to learn of them.

    Hi Sahar,

Thanx for adding my blog dnxpert.com to your related readings list. I have gone ahead and added you to my blogroll too.

Are you related to Ben Sahar ( he plays for Chelsea FC and the Israel national team ), he is still quite young but quite a good prospect for the future.

I have a professional question but I would rather ask it over email if possible.

    Hi Sahar

I was browsing my ex-employers website last night when I spotted that their American sister company has put their domain name up for sale on sedo.

via.com …strikes me as a strong LLL.com domain with various uses in travel/mapping sectors. Worth as much as UI.com perhaps?

    Any thoughts?

    Kind regards

    John C

    —-answer—-

Very strong and you are right, I would say 300k+ easy. If it was mine a buyer would be looking at mid seven figures at least. It was recently (last week or two) purchased by a friend.

  23. 23 Rob Sequin

I read your blog everyday and really enjoy the deep thoughts and insight.

I wanted to ask about the Cowboys.com contract. I have a couple of potential investors interested in my country-specific domain portfolio and I have presented them with a fractional ownership type of opportunity but they have lots of questions about structuring the deal.

Would it be possible to see a template of your fractional ownership contract? I would be willing to pay or donate money to a cause unless you plan to release the structure of the deal in a blog post or news article.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    —-Answer—-

    Hi Rob,
The cowboys.com deal is really a business. We put an LLC before the auction was done and now tweaking final points in an operating agreement to guide us through the business. Ideally, you would want to have an operating agreement before the purchase, not after.
As for right now the group’s operating agreement isn’t ready so ibviously it cannot be shared. Not sure if the group will allow to release the OA publicly later either.
    Cheers
    Sahar

  24. 24 Rob Sequin

Thank you. Good luck structuring that operating agreement. The problem my guys have is the definition of ownership and exit strategy.

The cowboys.com deal was done amoung friends and Players who already knew each other so the “marriage” was probably done on a handshake so that’s great.

Perhaps a blog post about the concept of fractional ownership along with the benefits and drawbacks would be helpful to the community?

Either way, I appreciate the reply.

    —-answer—-

I have some things in mind about it I cannot yet discuss, maybe in a couple of months.
    Good luck with your deal,
    Sahar

    Hi Sahar,

I tried to reach you at Sahar at RecallMediaGroup dot Com but for some reason, the email bounced back. Sorry to contact you this way.

I’m doing a blog post on how to get started as a domainer. As part of the post, I am asking several leaders in domaining what their top tip is for someone just starting out in the field. I’d really appreciate if you could take a moment and email me a brief reply outlining this. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

There’s an interesting new domaining blog that I’ve been following. It’s http://www.DNBizBlog.com. I don’t know the author personally or have any connection with him, but he’s apparently an old-time domainer who’s been around for a while, under the radar. He has some great ideas. I thought you might like to check it out.

    Hi Dave,
My email is on the ‘about’ page, should be easy to contact if needed. Nice list you put together, I can think of you who should be there but if I start naming names, it will never end. A side not about Assista, it is not powered by asking questions as you described but by using traditional keyword search to find questions. More on it here.

    http://adage.com/mediaworks/article?article_id=122432&search_phrase=cincymoms

The gathered companies’ stated tactics for getting there — such as focusing on local advertisers in print and online, offering new editorial and advertising products in print and online, partnering with digital powers, and BUYING ONLINE PROPERTIES — gave Gary Pruitt, McClatchy’s chairman and president-CEO, enough confidence about next year to get a little philosophical.

Gannett said one of the greatest opportunities is DEVELOPING NICHE SITES with social-networking capabilities, citing its recently introduced CINCYMOMS.com and INDYMOMS.com. Its metro papers also are adding “robust” community sections to act like small papers, accompanied by microsite companions, said Sue Clark-Johnson, president of the newspaper division.

    Sahir,

I have an interesting item you may be interested to blog about regarding the value evaluation on a high traffic/profile website.

If you’re interested to know more shoot me an email any time, i was thinking of posting a link here but then you don’t have the scoop ;)
I don’t have it seen on other domaining related blogs though and doing a search on the title doesn’t yield many results.

    Hi Sahar,

Been reading with interest your comments about Ask.com losing its google feed. I’ve been hearing that IAC is close to buying a third-tier search property (one that has its own advertising/bidding platform). What do you think? What alternatives does IAC have? Will they just go to YPN? Or buy somebody?
